“At the Lost and Found”

The year is 1980. Twenty-year-old Marvin lands in New York City. African-American, Southerner, Ivy League student, gay, Marvin believes this doesn’t define who he is. He hopes New York may unlock a world where he belongs but he doesn’t know how to go about it.
In New York, the unexpected rules Marvin’s life. Matthew, a white French guy, discovers Marvin and they become glued to each other. But Matthew is a wanderer, always ready to pack up and go.
My novel has a focus similar to the novel “The End of Eddy” by Edouard Louis and other novels such as “A Son Called Gabriel” by Damian McNicholl. They are stories of gay young men, some of them with doubts about their identities, caught in smothering environments and who, like Gabriel, are “leaving [their hometown] for a new beginning.” However, my novel begins where others end: We follow my main character, Marvin, after he has left his family’s home. What does he do next? Does he achieve true liberation?
1980 : à vingt ans, Marvin débarque à New York. Noir américain, étudiant émérite, gay, Marvin pense qu’il est bien autre que cela. Il espère que New York lui révèlera un monde qui est le sien.
Le hasard des circonstances devient son guide. Un français, Mathieu, le rencontre et pour un moment ils deviennent inséparables. Mais Mathieu vit une vie d’errance, toujours prêt à faire ses valises.
Le thème central de mon roman est proche de celui de La Fin d’Eddie d’Edouard Louis et d’autres romans tels que Un fils nommé Gabriel de Damian McNicholl : la vie de jeunes gays, parfois incertains de leur sexualité, captifs d’un milieu étouffant, et qui, tels Gabriel, s’échappent pleins d’espoir.
Mon roman commence là où d’autres finissent : on suit mon personnage principal après qu’il a quitté sa famille. Parvient-il à se libérer vraiment ?

Quelques photos dans le Sud de la France, puis à New York, sur un chemin dans le parc de Jamaica Bay (« Trail Closed » : l’ouragan Sandy a fait une brèche irréparable sur ce chemin), et je jardine avec le Floyd Bennett Garden Association (logo FBGA). Floyd Bennett : le premier aéroport de New York, d’où Lindbergh et d’autres pionniers de l’aviation se sont envolés.
At the United Nations: 1992-2006
I authored a score of official reports for the organization. A work I did with the same enthusiasm my art work made me feel.
Among these reports were annual in depth evaluations (*) on activities of the organization such as:
The international protection of refugees
The program on environment
The Department of humanitarian affairs
The international drug control program
The disarmament program
The sustainable development programs
The program on the law of the sea and ocean affairs
The main goal of these evaluations was to make UN programs as useful as possible to their beneficiaries.

Aux Nations Unies, de 1992 à 2006, j’ai écrit nombre de rapports officiels, résultat de mes recherches. Un travail que j’ai mené avec un grand enthousiasme.
Parmi ces rapports figurent mes évaluations annuelles des activités de l’organisation telles que : la protection des réfugiés, le programme pour l’environnement, les affaires humanitaires, le programme international du contrôle des drogues illicites, le programme pour le désarmement.
L’objectif de ces évaluations était de renforcer l’utilité des programmes de l’ONU.
